Private Property Wedding | Muskoka, ON
A beautiful September wedding in Muskoka, Ontario filled with candlelight and woodland charm.
Some weddings remind you that the most meaningful celebrations aren't necessarily the biggest ones. Sometimes, it's the smallest gatherings that leave the biggest impression.
This intimate Muskoka wedding was a perfect example of that. Planned in under six months, this September wedding brought together just 17 guests for a weekend centred around incredible food, thoughtful details, and an abundance of love. With the beauty of Lake Muskoka as their backdrop, the couple created a celebration that felt deeply personal, warm, and entirely their own.
As a Muskoka wedding planner, these are the kinds of celebrations I love being part of. The opportunity to take a couple's vision, understand what matters most to them, and thoughtfully bring it all together is what makes wedding planning so special.
Rather than planning a single wedding day, this couple envisioned a full weekend experience with their closest family and friends. The celebrations began on Friday evening, welcoming everyone to a beautiful Jayne's Luxury Cottage rental in Muskoka.
From the moment guests arrived, every detail was designed to make them feel welcomed and cared for. Each guest received a thoughtfully curated welcome bag, put together by the couple and filled with goodies to enjoy throughout the weekend. With bartending and catering provided from Friday evening onward, everyone could settle in, spend time together, and enjoy the experience without worrying about the little things.
There is something incredibly special about a private property wedding in Muskoka. The ability to gather in one beautiful place, slow down, share meals, and spend meaningful time with the people you love creates an atmosphere that is difficult to replicate in a traditional wedding setting.
For this couple, the weekend was never about hosting a large event. It was about creating an experience where their 17 guests felt like they were part of something truly special.
The bride had one particularly important vision for the wedding day: a woodland ceremony surrounded by trees, with an intimate atmosphere that felt natural, peaceful, and romantic. The surrounding Muskoka landscape provided the perfect setting for this vision. With the trees creating a sense of enclosure and privacy, the ceremony felt like its own little world, tucked away in nature.
As a wedding planner in Muskoka, I love when a couple embraces the natural beauty of their surroundings rather than trying to compete with it. The woodland setting, the September light, and the quiet intimacy of the gathering made this ceremony feel effortlessly beautiful.
Inside, the reception design took a different approach while carrying the same intimate feeling throughout.
Candlelight was at the heart of the vision. An abundance of ambient lighting, warm tones, and intricate arrangements helped transform the reception space into an inviting setting that felt romantic from the moment guests sat down.
The tablescape was an opportunity to do something a little different. The venue's live-edge table became a natural focal point, allowing the design to cascade along the length of the table. The result was a tablescape that felt organic, layered, and thoughtfully considered. Every detail worked together to create a setting that felt special without losing the relaxed intimacy of the weekend.
The views of Lake Muskoka completed the setting. With the September landscape surrounding the property, the reception felt connected to the beauty of the season, bringing together the warmth of the interior and the natural scenery just beyond the windows.
For couples planning an intimate wedding in Muskoka, a smaller guest count offers so much opportunity to be intentional with design. Rather than spreading the budget across a larger room and more tables, you can focus on the details guests will experience up close: beautiful linens, interesting textures, candlelight, intricate florals, and a table that encourages conversation.
With catering and a private chef experience from Toronto, the couple treated their guests to incredible food and drinks throughout the weekend, creating a relaxed, thoughtful hospitality experience from Friday evening onward.
As the evening unfolded, the speeches from the bride and groom, their parents, and siblings were beyond beautiful. With such an intimate gathering, every word felt personal, and the love that filled the room was a reminder of what makes a small wedding so special. It was a celebration centred on incredible food, meaningful connections, and an abundance of joy and love.
Planning a wedding in under six months is possible with a clear vision and the right support. Whether you're dreaming of an intimate private property wedding in Muskoka, a luxury cottage wedding, or a full wedding weekend with your favourite people, the details should reflect what matters most to you.
